At first glance I mean. Not anymore, obviously!
Hmmm, the Kia Soul has the same bumper vents as a Grand Cherokee Trawkhawk.
Im getting old...

I mean.... It might as well be a Kia.

Just so you know, the Kia Soul is now available with a contrasting roof. Yes, this is a factory option. No, I have no idea why.

I like it, and I like that there is a company bold enough to DARE to use color and variety on their vehicles (A new Mercedes? certainly sir, what shade of silver would you like?)

Le sigh*

...because I don’t think this design language bodes well for translating an iconic shape like the defender.

Would be more reliable that way.

They’re both going to be used for the same thing. Going to Whole Foods or something. Not like they’re going off road. The only difference is the people who want the badge.

The Kia’s probably less likely to end up at Whole Foods.

If the Defender name holds any value to JLR, it’ll be alright.

I think that’s a lot of faith to put into a company that created the evoke convertible.

Don't you mean a company that has the soul to use color variety? I'll see myself out now.

Cars like the Evoque Convertible are the reason why the Defender existed in the first place.Back in 1990 someone at LR decided that if the rest of their cars were to shift toward mass-market accessibility the Defender should defend the original Land Rover values: barebones, rugged utility and capability. No frills. Communism on wheels. Their 70 series. In a way the Defender was actually a downgrade from the Ninety and One-Ten that preceded it. Admittedly the gap between a Defender and an Evoque Convertible is FAR greater than the gap between a Defender and a Mk.1 Discovery.
